All through the day and well into the night a tireless band of earth champions undertakes an unofficial program of recycling throughout Hong Kong by searching public rubbish bins for recyclable items to take to the Sam Pan Street recycling business.

Of all ages, from young people to elders, they can be seen pushing trolleys along streets and alleys, loaded with waste paper and metals, to deposit with the recyclers. The recycling company is an essential business as it takes waste paper and metals for recycling which saves resources and landfill space.

Mrs So set up the Sam Pan Street Recycling Business over 20 years ago to support himself and his siblings while keeping the city free from rubbish.

The business serves over 200 offices and supports 25-30 colleagues who collect paper cartons and recyclable paper products.
