Lisa Christensen, Ecovision Asia
Ecovision offers sustainable recycling solutions. It builds, designs and distributes collection systems in Hong Kong. It has produced the giant blue recycling bins and the stainless steel bins that can be seen on the streets in the city. Ecovision is also involved in eco-education, eco-events and eco-media to raise awareness of environmental responsibility within the public.
Lisa has organised eco-events, bringing schools, companies and community groups together to raise awareness.
When Lisa came to Hong Kong, she shocked to find there were no systems for recycling. She was invited by the Civic Exchange to formulate a survey and recycling audit for a property development company in 2000.
It was after this that she launched the sustainable recycling bin system. Her expertise in sports marketing and working with big brands for sponsorship, which she also got for the recycling bins, has helped her set up Ecovision and design, manufacture and distribute the bins. It’s an on-going project, which will continue to add bins around Hong Kong.
She took an online environmental management course in 2002 to learn about the recycling industry in Hong Kong, Asia Pacific, Canada and Europe.
She has launched eco-events, which were non-existent at the time, including the “Coastal Cleanup Challenge”, which brought together schools, companies and community groups to clean up Hong Kong beaches and raise awareness about coastal debris and marine pollution.
Progress
Locally in Hong Kong – Beaches are cleaner, saving thousands of tonnes of waste from going into landfills, increasing awareness about environmental issues and offering solutions within individuals’ and communities’ grasp.
Nationally in China – Next year she is planning to take the project to China.
Internationally – Nothing yet but the project is scalable.
Lisa’s main goals are to motivate eco-education and awareness. She’s helping to form positive habits for people to recycle and take care of nature.
Short term – Ecovision is mobilising thousands of people to clean the beaches, learn about environmental issues and how they can make a difference. Every action counts.
Long term – Ecovision is making the world a better, healthier place to live.
Ecovision has been running a paperless office, and all their events are carbon-neutral. They offset for everything that they do by working with an Australian company (carbonfund.net).
In collaboration with, and following the 11th birthday of “Cleanup the World” on 11 November, Lisa launched “Earth Matters”. “Clean the Air” is a foundation that Lisa is involved in for eight years.
Ideally, Lisa would like to see the future benefit from a clean environment and oceans, increased awareness and community participation, world peace and economic stability, an end of corporate greed and more Earth Champions.
