Eddie Wu, CLP
CLP’s Energy Efficiency in Guangdong
In a bid to help customers reduce energy wastage and enhance energy efficiency Eddie manages the Energy Services team, which has been active in Hong Kong for nearly 10 years. They have completed over 700 energy audits for large energy consuming companies.
In Hong Kong, CLP has conducted end-to-end work around energy efficiency; from energy audits to project implementation and performance contracting.
CLP is a power generator, however they are very conscious of reducing emissions and energy efficiency. Currently they are using about 1/3 coal, 1/3 gas and 1/3 nuclear. In terms of environmental performance, they would rate themselves among the top players in the region.
Eddie’s project is focused in Southern China and the reduction of energy usage in the world’s manufacturing capital. CLP opened an office in Guangdong to provide energy efficiency services in August 2008. The initiative is to help enhance the regional environment and help customers reduce energy cost.
Currently there are a large number of factories in Guangdong including the 70,000 HK owned manufactures. By helping customers save energy through a complete and detailed energy audit, the aim is to save customers 10-15% of their energy bills and with it a subsequent emissions reduction.
The current approach is primarily consultancy where a detailed report is provided with recommendations. In the future they may also provide energy efficiency project management, end-to-end project delivery and financing. Will also work with partners who are experts in other areas.
So far they have conducted over 20 projects in Guangdong with more in the pipeline.
