Eddie Tse, Personal Dedication to Environmental Education
The project is about Eddie’s journey of environmental protection/sustainable development, which comprised several different projects or checkpoints that Eddie has experienced, namely as:
- Green study in university (study);
- Reclamation works in North Tsing Yi (work);
- Support to a green fuel company (voluntary support to his friend); and
- Making a green documentary (voluntary education programme).
?
The projects addressed a wide range of environmental issues, including environmental education, energy saving, alternative fuel, climate change, conservation of biodiversity. They are all global issues.
Eddie started to build his passion for protecting the environment while studying in university and his vision was to do something to clean up the earth, which has pushed Eddie to carry out a series of environmental projects to fulfil his vision. He views school education as one of the most critical elements in environmental protection and, due to a lack of related teaching materials, Eddie is producing a series of green documentaries which can be used as teaching material in school.
Different checkpoints took place at different times.
The most recent one was making a green documentary ‘Put Natural Back to Natural’ in 2008. Eddie is now working to develop a series of green documentaries, which ultimately can be used as teaching material in secondary school.
Eddie is an experienced environmental expert, and he has devoted his own private time, ideas and expertise to these projects.
For work projects, he had support from top management as some of the working projects required his company to invest a certain amount of money. For other voluntary projects, senior management support is also critical, as Eddie may need to work for the voluntary projects in his working hours.
Applying for funding to produce the series of green documentaries is the major obstacle that Eddie has to overcome now.
Progress
Locally in Hong Kong:
Reclamation works in North Tsing Yi – reserve the land resource, save energy and create a habitat for natural organisms through the set up of a green roof in the construction site office.
Support to a green fuel company – promote the use of alternative cleaner fuel, which can save fossil fuel as well as minimise the emission of GHG by switching petroleum to biodiesel.
Making a green documentary – promote the environmental awareness of Hong Kong secondary students.
Eddie sees the future impacts of his projects as follows:
Short term: promote the use of biodiesel, reduce the electricity consumption in construction site office through setting up green roof.
Long term: raise the public and students’ environmental awareness and provide a teaching material on environmental protection to school teachers.
On balance, Eddie contributes to solving environmental problems as he tries his best to provide his expertise to protecting the environment or minimising the environmental pollution in his work.
Eddie has successfully engaged his friends as well as some secondary students to produce the green documentary to promote the message of environmental protection.
Eddie’s wants to show the public that, although many surveys forecast that climate change will seriously affect the condition of the earth, we can still save the planet if everyone contributes their efforts to protect our earth.
