To utilise landfill gas (LFG) generated in NENT Landfill in a more environmentally friendly and economical way, FELT and Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) have developed the LFG Utilisation Project to use treated LFG, also named as Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG), as a heating fuel in town gas production.

SNG is produced from raw LFG by a LFG Treatment Unit (TU) installed at NENT and then delivered to the Towngas production plant through a 19-km underground pipeline.

The LFG utilisation project not only provides a new source of cleaner energy to replace the use of fossil fuel, but also cuts the emission of greenhouse gases in HK.
