Bristol Quest
The Bristol Region Earth Champions Quest brought communities together to uncover local leadership, celebrate everyday changemakers, and strengthen wellbeing, resilience, and environmental action across the region.
By connecting people, projects, and ideas, the programme revealed the power of grassroots innovation and demonstrated how collaboration can build healthier, more connected communities.
WHY THIS QUEST MATTERED
Bristol and the surrounding region are home to vibrant communities, rich biodiversity, and a strong culture of environmental awareness. At the same time, the area faces complex challenges, including inequality, social isolation, health disparities, and pressures on natural spaces.
Across neighbourhoods, countless individuals and community groups are working to address these issues through practical, creative solutions. However, much of this effort remains fragmented, under-recognised, and disconnected from wider learning and support networks.
The Bristol Region Earth Champions Quest was created to uncover these local initiatives, celebrate their impact, and build stronger connections between people and projects, helping positive change spread more widely and effectively.
THE JOURNEY
The Quest launched with an open call for nominations, inviting individuals, schools, charities, and community groups to share stories of environmental and social action taking place across the Bristol region.
The response was overwhelming. Over 137 nominations were received, highlighting a diverse range of initiatives spanning biodiversity, food growing, education, community wellbeing, sustainability, and creative engagement.
Through careful review and community involvement, 71 Earth Champions were recognised, each representing powerful examples of leadership, care, and commitment. These champions reflected the richness and diversity of the region, from grassroots organisers and educators to innovators and volunteers.
A central part of the programme was its emphasis on participation and connection. Site visits, community events, and shared learning opportunities created spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration, strengthening relationships across sectors and neighbourhoods.
The Quest culminated in a regional celebration that honoured the champions, showcased their achievements, and reinforced a collective sense of pride, belonging, and purpose.
